Feeding in car seat

How many of you have sat in the back of a car on a long road trip and fed your baby a bottle?

For some reason I thought this was dangerous and illegal, but the 'what to expect ' article about road trips talked about it!

I give my girl a bottle all the time in the car. I didn't know that was bad??

When she was smaller I wouldn't do it but now I give my LO a bottle in the car all the time.

I have done it when we don't have any other option. However I don't like to because if they choke you can't get them out quickly. My LO was a preemie and has reflux so she sometimes vomits out of nowhere and it's scary in the car. My son however never had any issues and when we traveled with him giving him a bottle on the car seat was simple!

Why on earth would this be illegal??

@twentysixpoint2,

Because im a crazy first time mom ;) haha i guess i was being a tad sarcastic about the illegal part ... i could see someone thinking it as 'endangering' the baby if there was a possibility of choking or even if an accident would shove a bottle in babies face.

I saw an example of a simple loose item becoming extremely dangerous in a car because of the velocity a car goes from 60 to 0mph so quickly.

Anyway now i know i wont get evil looks if i have to do it. Thanks!!

I've done it. Bottle and purees

I just came back from a road trip and we fed our LO in his car seat. I found it easier if I put an extra 2 ounces in the bottle because once it got too low he had trouble getting it since he couldn't tip his head back far enough. I would try to time it so that he ate when we would stop but it didn't always work out that way.

I feed him a bottle almost every time were in the car. Until recently he would cry the whole trip if I didn't. He's just now where he doesn't need it. But it could be potentially dangerous in the event of a wreck. I wouldn't do solids in case baby started choking.

We've never been on long car rides but there are times we are in the car when it's time for him to have a bottle. I try to only give him a bottle if we're near our destination so as soon as he's done I can take him out and burp him. If not he'll start crying in his carseat and vomit his entire bottle up.

You're not alone! I thought the same thing as you!

My little love never took to a bottle and is ebf and on long car trips I have actually been able to breastfeed her while we are both buckled. It's not at all comfortable for me and left bruises on my ribs at first,but when your in stand still traffic for hours, it works.
